Texas’ Republican governor Greg Abbott signed an executive order banning vaccine mandates in his state, even as Texas takes the lead as the deadliest state for COVID-19. These mandate bans are pure political pandering to the lowest-information voters, and Abbott doesn’t seem to care that his policies are becoming increasingly unpopular with a year to go until the midterms.

Restrictive abortion law takes effect in Texas
Texas law that bars abortions at six weeks went into effect after the Supreme Court and a federal appeals court failed to rule on pending emergency requests brought by abortion providers.
The lack of judicial intervention means that the law — which is one of the strictest in the nation and bans abortion before many people know they are pregnant — goes into force absent further court intervention.
The law allows private citizens to bring civil suits against anyone who assists a pregnant person seeking an abortion in violation of the ban.
Texas Governor Bans Social Media Outlets From Making Choices About Their Own Platforms
Republican Texas governor Greg Abbott has signed a law that forbids social media companies from banning people from their platforms based on their location and/or their politics. This isn’t actually a thing that social media outlets were doing, and a similar law in Florida was already struck down by the courts, but that didn’t stop Abbott from pandering to the dumbest conservatives in his state by signing the legislation. DOJ Sues Texas over six-week abortion ban
The Biden Justice Department sued the state of Texas on Thursday over its new six-week abortion ban, saying the state law is unconstitutional. Announcing the lawsuit at a news conference in Washington, Attorney General Merrick Garland said the Texas law’s “unprecedented” design seeks “to prevent women from exercising their constitutional rights by thwarting judicial review for as long as possible.”
